May 31st is observed as World No Tobacco Day every year. Tobacco is a threat to mankind and its adverse health effects are certainly not unknown. Smoking may lead to heart diseases, stroke, asthma, chronic obstructive airway disease and many cancers including lung cancer.

P – Pick a quit day. Set World No Tobacco Day as your quit day so that you can remember it for the rest of your life. Start the preparation.
L – Let your friends and family know in advance that you have decided to quit. This is important because they might help or join you.
A – Anticipate your triggers and use the ‘A’ strategies to cope. Some common triggers include a person smoking next to you, stress, anger, excitement, boredom, etc. It will become easy for you to deal with them in your quitting plan.
N – Talk to an expert about nicotine/quit medications. According to research, it has been observed that nicotine or quit medications can double or triple the chances of quitting.
Keep Busy: Staying busy will help you a lot to stay smoke-free on Quit Day. Being busy will help you keep your mind off smoking. You can try the following to keep yourself busier for your own good. These include exercising, walking, drinking water, yoga exercises such as deep breathing, meeting with friends or family, cooking, going out to dine at your favourite and smoking free restaurant, watching your favourite show on television, chewing gum or hard candy, playing any indoor or outdoor game to keep your hands busy etc.
